Fabien Ollier, philosopher and editor of the magazine "What sport?"
"The World Cup, a global alienation"
LEMONDE.FR
Fabien Ollier is editor of the magazine Which sport? He has published many books participant radical critique of sport including the integration of football in 2002, Footmania in 2007, The Black Book of the Beijing Olympics in 2008. A few days before the opening World Cup soccer, Fabien Ollier gives an overview of this uncompromising high mass planetary orchestrated by "the all-powerful multinational private FIFA."
You compare the sport in general, football in particular, a global disposition. What do you think the World Cup?
Fabien Ollier: Just delve into the history of World Cups to extract the long political infamy and disposal strategy warming. The World Cup in South Africa does indeed no exception to the rule. The term capital as predator is at work: the multinational partners of FIFA and various mafia organizations have already fallen on South Africa to draw the largest possible benefits. A number of journalists who worked in depth on the FIFA system revealed the modus operandi of the organization rather sordid. It is no secret to anyone today. In addition, there is some indecency to believe that people benefit from this windfall. The cleaning of slums, the expulsion of residents, the luxurious renovation of some townships have been controlled by "gangs" who are not used to repay the benefits. With the majority of the population living on less than 2 euros per day, this display of wealth is somewhat questionable.
The safe deployment supposed to maintain order, to ensure a so-called civil peace is another reality that the construction of a real state of siege, a state "big brother". The helicopters, thousands of police and military are there to monitor, protect park misery and luxury, to allow pseudo-football fans "
vibrate
" . The mass mobilization of minds around the national team led the implementation of a mandatory collective hysteria. All this is a political diversion obvious ideological control of a population. In times of economic crisis, one topic that should concern us is the health of our young footballers. It's pathetic. Yet the French are quite critical with their national team.
There is more to the reduction of each citizen analyst sports bar through a process of identification. It is a mandatory supporterism disguised "critical thinking"
, in good as in the worst moments. There is actually a tendency of many to claim her share of opium sport. But for the disenchantment of the French team against mercenary millionaires evolves into a real awareness, I hope that the France team does not pass the first round. Their playing so poorly while spreading so indecent pace of life is particularly sickening evidence of a terrible arrogance vis-à-vis some basic ethical and moral principles. Unfortunately, every victory of the France team back several centimeters critical thinking in this country. I do not appreciate the development of totalitarianism sports. We just finished with Roland Garros, the World Cup takes place and then we have the Tour de France. The pension system can be sprayed in silence.
How do you feel when the French successfully tested in 1998 and celebrated by many intellectuals as a positive event that goes beyond the sport?
The victory of the France team has generated a loss of thought. Many intellectuals have chosen to descend into the locker room instead of seizing areas of socio-political importance. They implement a caricature which is thought bitterly to see the excesses of the sport but to overdo it in a speech on the idealistic "positive values"
Sport:
" Yes, sometimes resulting in sport behavior limits but I can not help but let me take " . Too many intellectuals have succumbed to "passions vibration" and "ecstasy" sport it is they who now justify the horror sports generalized violence, doping, scheming, cretinism supporters, etc.. Your argument refutes the idea of football or sport in general as a mere reflection of society with its share of violence.
Indeed, most of those who defend Sport and football in the customs clearance of giving them a simple mirror effect of a violent society. "We can not expect football to be less violent than the company"
. In my opinion, it is not only a reflection, football is also a producer of social violence, generating new violence. It requires a model of social Darwinism. This is its structure: the football is organized into logical competition and confrontation. Play this show with overpaid players to minimum wage earners and the unemployed is also a form of violence. A logical contradiction is also day. On the one hand, fans are aware of the fact that athletes earn vast sums from the nothingness they produce but on the other hand, in a thirst for identification related to their own misery, there is an inability to not
"dream" before this live commodity which shows that we can get to the top of the ladder. Another image d'Epinal football assigned a role as an outlet for nationalism and war.
Symbolization of war does not exist in stages, the war is present. Football exacerbates tensions and raises nationalist patriotic emotions of a vulgar and a brilliant absurdity. I reject the idea of a trial of civilization. Sport causes a form of violence different, less obvious that a bomb but does not absolutely involved a decrease in violence. There are multiple pinpricks instead of a large sword.
You regret rallying from left to right values bequeathed by sport peak. What is it?
Sport is undeniably political. As such, it generates political values. It is interesting to speculate on whether these values are right or left. It seems to me that the left has abandoned its values to join the right model based on the principle of efficiency, hierarchy and competition. See
Marie-George Buffet denounce football show and end up in the final of World Cup 98 wearing the shirt and shouting encouragement to the team of France is pretty schizophrenic. There is a political defeat of the left vis-à-vis the development strategy of capital made by the leading sports through private multinationals who organize such as FIFA, UEFA and the IOC. The example of the allocation of Euro 2016 in France is striking. Left, the Greens, the PCF has signed a letter of support to the FFF. By this act, they provided a blank check to any form of embezzlement of public money. In times of crisis, how the left can she not be sensitive the awarding of an envelope of 1, 7 billion euros to renovate the stadiums? It seems incredible that this is private multinationals that decide what a state must implement economic policy.
Interview by Anthony Hernandez.
